On Play
Control, mute Line-In/Mic-In and in the Advanced section, disable
monitoring. The USB devices have an inherent latency that might make it
difficult for the users to sync while jamming. This device works well
otherwise and could be useful for sharing ideas and playing for others,
instructing, demonstrations, etc. |

Firewire 410 |
PC-Windows XP FIREWIRE |
See notes. |
On the JAM GUI,
Select Options, then Audio Device drop down list.
Choose the 2nd (or third)
M-Audio FW 410 in the list. Then press connect.
For the
M-Audio 410 - Input
guitar/instrument/audio device on the front panel input(s) and adjust
the levels. To configure the M-Audio Firewire Control Panel (icon
in control panel) - adjust Analog 1/2 input levels on the input
bus. Make sure there are no outlines selected. Set the Headphones
to monitor 1/2, etc. Go to the hardware tab and disable asio direct
monitoring. This will allow the signal to run through the JAM audio
system before being directed to the selected output. If you would
rather monitor without the system's delay then enable it. |

Firewire Solo |
PC-Windows XP FIREWIRE |
See notes. |
This
device works nicely for listening although the latency is higher than
average so Jamming will not be an optimum experience. The Solo does
come with a zero latency monitoring feature. In order to turn it off,
in the M-audio Firewire Interface which you can access in the control
panel, make sure the analog 1/2 out is unchecked (not blue) and the SW
return 1/2 is checked (blue). On the PC that we tested, the drivers
needed to be reinstalled in the device manager. |

JAM
Interface - Options/AudioDevice/M-Audio USB ASIO. Having a mix of input
and playback on the same dial makes it difficult to get the box out of
input-monitoring mode. In the manual, M-Audio recommends that the DAW's
output be muted so the latent output won't be mixed with the input
monitor output. Drivers for Asio 2, WDM and Core Audio. Might need SP2
for XP. |

PC/Win XP/PCI |
Excellent |
To adjust hardware settings,
after you have installed the drivers and software, go to control panel
and then go to m-audio control interface. Make sure the monitor mode is
set on software return. Keep in mind there is no preamp so its
suggested to use an external mixer or another device with preamps like a
Mackie board. However card sounds great. Real clear. Easy to use.
Drivers download easy. |

PC-Windows XP USB |
See notes. |
With the
USB connector, and using the Behringer Asio, we haven't found the
configuration that allows iAxe/USB->JAM input->Jam output->iAxeUSB. It
can be configured setting the JAM audio to the Audigy Sound card. Run
the iAxe headphone output to the Audio card. Please let us know if
you’ve found a decent configuration for this axe. |

PreSonus |
Firepod |
PC-Windows XP FIREWIRE |
See notes. |
We used
the
Centrance
Audio Driver designed to reduce the latency and enhance the quality for
a number of audio applications using firewire including the Firepod. The
latency is reduced but is still lengthy for the JAM application. The
sound quality is excellent. We haven’t been able to establish a
connection to JAM when using the drivers that come with Firepod. |

PreSonus |
Firepod |
Apple Mac FIREWIRE |
Very good |
Works well on the Macintosh with the drivers that come with the Firepod.
Works with Macintosh Core-Audio with no problem. In order to turn off
the Zero-Latency monitoring you must turn the ‘mixer’ volume on the
device all the way to the right. The mixer knob controls the balance
between the zero latency monitoring and the post-signal monitoring.
Simply go to system preferences>sound>input and change the input to
Firepod and do the same at system preferences>sound>output.

Apple x86

Apple x86 Internal |

The Apple
audio system appears to have some latency built in, so we're starting
off with a delay. Sounds good, though and will be fine for most
applications. |

Same

jamming. |

Long delay

Digidesign |
MBox2mini |
PC-Windows XP USB |
Good |
The MBox2 mini is designed to
work with ProTools but we are testing it as a standalone I/O interface
to the JAM app. On the digidesign web site, download the Windows
standalone windows driver. Make sure no other sound cards are enabled!

|
MOTU |
828IIK |
Apple Mac FIREWIRE |
Excellent |
The 828IIK has a zero-latency
feature that must be disabled to avoid hearing the signal twice (once
going directly through the motu, and another time after coming back
around from firewire). To disable this feature, you must go to the
Cue-Mix console. Once there, make sure that the output bus is
disabled. This will disable the zero latency monitoring. Also make
sure that the correct drivers are downloaded. To download drivers go to
the motu link in column one. Go to downloads and the drivers are
available there. Windows Drivers were also available at that site. In
addition you should go to the MOTU Audio setup and change the buffer
size to 256. JamNow will not work unless you do this. We tested JamNow
with the back inputs and outputs, not with the front mic and phone
jacks. |

SoundMAX |
Integrated Digital HD Audio
Codec |
PC-Windows XP Internal |
Fair |
It’s a little bit slow but will
work for fans/listeners and maybe for Jammers that can adapt to the
slight delay. Not really recommended. |
|
SigmaTel |
High DefinitionAudio Codec |
PC-Windows XP Internal |
Not recommended |
The internal codecs built on to
PC motherboards are okay for everyday use but most JamNow users will
probably prefer upgrading to a better soundcard. |
