LANDON
“I was searching for something worth giving up running from
And there you were to disarm me
Battle’s over, I finally surrender
This one woman army.”
- “One Woman Army,” LANDON
“Music is an incredible energy and force that fills my body and spirit,” LANDON says. “I love creating, writing, and composing music…I can't imagine myself doing anything else and being as fulfilled. I love the challenge of incorporating different styles and influences into my writing and forcing myself to write about fears.”
Welcome to LANDON’s free-spirited world, where she’ll take you with her on a journey of independence and self-discovery.
LANDON’s debut CD One Woman Army (The Matriarch Label) contains 15 of LANDON’s emotionally penetrating songs. Influenced by artists such as Trent Reznor, Shirley Manson, Radiohead, U2, the Pretenders and Nirvana, LANDON’s music is also touched by her real life experiences: pain, faith, spirituality and the various people she encounters through life.
23 year-old LANDON was born and raised in Texas. The former schoolgirl/teenage model left that life behind her, turned down college at the age of 18, packed up her car (and her college fund) and headed for Los Angeles on her own to pursue her musical dreams. “I wrote songs when I was a little girl on the playground,” she explains. “I would dance, sing and act on a stage for anyone…but to share my most intimate thoughts was more intimidating than getting shoved into lockers. Now, I am unbridled…!”
“I have always been in my own independent world,” LANDON continues. “Poetry was a way of expressing my inner thoughts and a release that morphed into music and lyrics. I would write every single day, and still do. My musical taste growing up was always influenced by alternative rock, which contrasted my studies of classical voice and piano. My passion for the performing arts helped me evolve into an artist that combined those diverse influences. I modeled and did commercial work when I was young to save up money for college…but I had an abnormal high school experience. There were no pom-poms or jocks involved.”
It is absolutely worth noting, as the experience strongly contributed to LANDON’s inner strength and determination, that she is a survivor of cancer. “I like keeping my private life private and letting my lyrics tell the story,” LANDON states. “I am a survivor of cancer, and the battle and effects of the disease lasted six years. I was on auto-pilot to get through it…staying positive and motivated through my music and faith kept me fighting. I am thick-skinned now and unafraid to express myself. Some of it came with growing into a woman, but the majority of my strength was maintaining my character and integrity when giving up or numbing myself would have been so easy.”
Having fought and won her battle with the illness, LANDON arrived in Los Angeles and almost immediately ended up befriending the stepdaughter of legendary producer Bob Clearmountain, who has worked with such luminaries as Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Pretenders, David Bowie, Roxy Music and many others. Clearmountain heard LANDON’s music and immediately decided to help her achieve her musical dreams. “I met (Clearmountain's stepdaughter) Alex at a housewarming party,” LANDON says. “Meeting her and being introduced to Bob was career changing. Bob and (his wife) Betty have been a second family to me in Los Angeles. I still can't believe people like them can exist in this industry. I am very fortunate that Bob got it right away.”
And so was the genesis of One Woman Army, which was mixed by Clearmountain. “One Woman Army is the title track from the album,” explains LANDON. “It encompasses the body of work I've worked on for the past three years and the naming of the album just fit perfectly. One Woman Army is a journey of diverse influence and life stages. It evolves as you listen to it, and is extremely multi-sensory.”
